To Be or Not To Be . . . Complete

You may recall that I did a post about this ball of yarn and that I had no idea of what to do with it.  And that I have a yarn addiction that I do go shopping to get a fix.  But mainly, what should I do with this ball.  What should I make?

20160613_143525-1[1]Well after a few days of surfing, I found a pattern that I had on Pinterest.  The pattern is Quick & Easy Knitted Infinity Scarf from this link.  http://www.oursouthernhomesc.com/2013/11/quick-easy-knitted-infinity-scarf.html

I do not know why this link will not work.   So you have to copy and paste it yourself.  Good grief.

But nevertheless, here is the scarf.  I ended up making it into a cowl.  Something simple and easy.

In other news, I finished a step in the prize album for the Christmas Sale in Bentley.  I am currently waiting on supplies, but I thought I would give everyone a sneak peek.  I am really proud of myself that I might have to make myself one.

Anyway I hope everyone had a good weekend.

Dollar Stores

When the dollar stores first came out, I was happy because you can buy things for a dollar.  Where as in other stores, it cost more.  But I learned very quickly that things aren’t always what they seem.   For example, their journals, I ended up spending more money and time on repairing it with scotch tape.  The pens either leaked or they were poor quality.  So back then, the only good that the dollar stores were good for was the candy.

However it changed over the years.  Big name brands were starting to appear.  I was still weary of their art supplies.  Again, I prefer quality over quanity and if I have to spend a few more dollars for it, so be it.  But then some of the same art supplies were selling at other stores and at a more expensive price.   Same brand, same packaging.  Everything.

Plus they had books that I can use them for art journal and not feel bad that I am destroying a book published in the 1940s.

In my personal opinion there are a few things that I can use for my art journaling, but not for Original Things.  The quality is still quite as good.  I know I am being fussy.

So the next time, you are at a dollar store, check out the craft sections, you may be surprise.  As well think outside of the box, per say;

  • Cleaning rags – to clean up your mess.
  • Bubble wrap – besides use for mailing, it makes a great background stamp.
  • Envelopes – Mail art or albums
  • Plastic plates – for paint palettes
  • Paper or plastic cups – for mixing paint
  • Paper bags – for albums
  • Children’s plastic place mats – they can be use as Tim Holtz’s mats
  • Sketchpads – not for sketching, but for paper inside the books that I bind.  And easy to make wrapping paper.
  • Duct tape
  • Aluminium tape
  • Painter’s tape
  • Sponges – cleaning and stamping.
  • Rubbing alcohol- make alcohol sprays
  • Paper towels
  • Plastic bins storage
  • Twine – cards and book binding

The lists goes on and on

To Be or Not To Be

Usually when I buy yarn, it is for one of five reasons.

  1. I have a project in mind.
  2. I have an order to fill.
  3. It was on sale.
  4. The colors were gorgeous.
  5. I needed a fix.

So this yarn does not fit into any of my categories.  Earlier this year, my hair dresser gave me 2 big boxes of yarn which her neighbour gave her.  This was one of the balls that came out of the box.

Even though, I really like the color, but I have no idea of what to make.  Obviously, I can’t make a sweater or an afghan from it.

A hat?

A scarf, I really don’t think it will be 6 feet long though.

I am toying of an idea of a cowl, a simple one because of the size of the ball.  But now, I need an idea for a pattern.  I am leaning toward a cable design, but we will see.

So the question still remains.

To be or not to be?

Being Sick and Albums

Things had slow down here a bit.  Mainly because I am not feeling so great.  I don’t know if it is the stress or a bug, but holy catfish, I feel like I have been run over by a semi.

I am now selling small bears and dishcloths with the cards at my hairdresser.  Already I sold a dishcloth and 2 bears.  Unfortunately, I do not make much money there.  The money I do earn go towards a haircut.  I should save it for a color and a highlight.  It’s a girl thing.

A few months back, I completed a baby album for Lady L’s baby shower.  Here are a few shots of it.  I admit that I enjoyed using Winnie the Pooh Cricut and wish I can use him more along with my Mickey Mouse and Tinkerbel cartiages.  When I first brought them, I brought then when my nieces and nephews were just babies, not all except one is has grown up.  I feel old now.

The album tutorial is from The Creative Life Studios.  Here is the link to the You-Tube video, Envelope Mini Album .  It was a simple album to make, the only hard part that I had was not to overdo it.  And trust me, I had to stop myself several times.  And the best part of it was that all I actually had to buy was glue. But in all honestly, I would have brought glue either way because I am always running out.

There was an insert which again, I found on Youtube.  It is called Triple Library Pocket with Trifold Flap.  Library Pocket With Trifold Flap.

And here is the baby card.  20160409_164848

So what is my next play you ask?  Obviously get over this bug.  I am sorting my art stash again, trying once again to get my stamps organized.  I am starting to believe that I have a better chance to find the Fountain of Youth than getting my stamps organized.  I am still organizing my yarn stash.  With that and donating the yarn, (by the way, I am on bag #5), I haven’t kept track of what I have knitted or completed or how many balls of yarn I used this year.  It is a little nerve wrecking.

I also been toying with another idea for an album, a Christmas album from a children’s book.  But I am fighting against it because I am still working on the prize album which I haven’t touch in a couple of months, due to the orders.  So finish the prize album first then maybe the storybook.

I have to stop coming up with more creative ideas.
