Father’s Day Card

I can’t believe that it is already June. This year has gone by so fast.  School is letting out and my oldest nephew is going to be graduating this year.  And Father’s day is upon up once again.

I am not sure of how all fathers feel about that day. With my dad, he doesn’t really care about that day.  He just want to have a nice dinner and he is one happy camper.  That is why for me personally, Father’s Day is one of the hardest cards for me to make, especially for my dad.

This is one of the reasons of why this Father’s day card is simple. You can change the sentiment to “Happy Birthday” or “Thank you” to this card.

The other reason is that I got a new stencil and die that I wanted to try out.

20190610_171831(1)[1]The video is at Father’s Day card

The supplies that I used are:

  • 5 x 7 inch brown card
  • Double sided tape
  • Foam tape
  • Art 1st Paint Pad 9 x 12 – Pacon (cheap drawing paper)
  • Brown cardstock (same brown as the card)
  • Dark Chocolate Brown cardstock
  • 3 ½ x 5 inch medium brown cardstock
  • Embossing Folder – Dots
  • Cuttlebug
  • 3 ½ inch circle die
  • E-scenery cutting Die – 3 Deers
  • Xyron Machine
  • “Happy Father’s Day” stamp from Recollection
  • Cutter
  • Scoreboard
  • Bone folder
  • Tim Holtz’s Distressed Stain- Vintage Photo
  • Tim Holtz’s Distressed Ink – Vintage Photo
  • Dauber
  • Tim Holtz’s Stencil – Birch Layering Stencil
  • Artist Loft’s Modeling Paste
  • Plastic Plate
  • Small Wooden Dole
  • Plastic Palette Knife
  • Washi Tape
  • Apple Barrel Colors Craft Paint – Cobalt Blue

I originally brought this paper for that book challenge but changed my mind. It is also cheap drawing paper which made the tearing easy. However it also meant that I couldn’t load it with layers with paint or else the paper will fall apart. I had to go in and out, no fine details. Which was ok, afterall this was a simple card.

Notice the word simple being underlined. Well that was because during the time I was using my embossing folder, the handle of my cuttlebug fell off. Good grief. It was an easy fix, but honestly, I was on a row and it kind of interrupted the flow.

The songs I used “A Revelation”, “Birds in Flight”, “Grass”, and “Wistful Harp.” are from You Tube Library.

With the summer being here, it means warmer weather. Nice to go outside to enjoy the sunshine. Except I am getting ideas for Halloween and Christmas videos. Like 5 days of Halloween and 5 days of Christmas. Can we say oh boy.

Once again, I apologized for the camera moving, my head kept bumping into it. I am going to see if I can fix this weekend.

Change of plans.

I had originally planned to enter #Areyoubookenough in Instagram with May’s theme being the alphabet.

My original idea was not only make it into a You Tube video, but to make an old journal, someone to carry who would travel wherever he or she went.  It would be worn out and such.  As for the alphabet, I would have quotes from famous people like Einstein, Henry Ford, and even Batman and the Joker.  I wanted to have their portraits in the journal as well.

Except it didn’t turned out like that.  The printer ran out of ink which took time to get a new cartilage and the drying time.   You can see it easily on Albert Einstein’s picture of the problems I had with the printer.

I even posted on Facebook that if I had a nickel (remember Canada had abolish the penny.) every time I had to wait for drying time, I would be a rich woman.

My friend A suggest to start a piggy bank so I thought why not?  I must be inhaling too much paint fumes or something.

Anyway, I was not happy with the results of the book and didn’t enter it.

I sort of like the binding with the beads, but next time, I would change several things.  Like using canvas boards as cover and no coffee stain paper.  I know that I must be the oddest person who does not like coffee.  When I was staining the paper, my whole room reeked of coffee and add Frebreeze and scented candles, then smelled like vanilla-lavender coffee.  That was nasty.

Let alone, the paper tore very easily.  So I know of how to make a better one next time.  It won’t be for awhile.  But it also meant no video for my channel.  I have a few ideas, don’t worry.

I would like to try the Instragram thing again, but I am not sure when.  I know from October to the end of November is out because of the Bentley sales.

I also know two of the themes coming up are shadows and tickets.  I can’t help thinking that old Beatles’ song, “Ticket to Ride.”  At least, I don’t have to have 26 pages.   I remember when I was a child, there was a song about the shadows.  But dang it, I remember the melody and a few words, but that is it.  I don’t know the title or who even sang it.  I’m getting old.

My big hurdle at the moment is my knee and my balance.

My knee has been killing me for the past two weeks. All I did was one day; it wasn’t hurting so I thought I would clean.

Big mistake because even though I went up and down the stairs twice, my knee was screaming obscenities at me for the rest of the week.

Then I had to go on a few errands and get a mamma today which meant more screaming.  Terrific.  Even my balance was off.

I know, I know TPP&C. Time, Patience, Practise, and a little Chocolate.

Folded Flowers Mother’s Day Card

To be honest, this was my second attempt at this video. I actually was almost finished with the first video when my phone shut down and somehow the whole footage was deleted.  Needless to say, I was not a happy camper.  The link to the video is:https://youtu.be/LaRWZR5Pq1g

The supplies I used were:

  • Tim Holtz’s Distressed Ink:
          • Mowed Lawn
          • Peacock Blue
          • Antique Linen
          • Pickled Raspberry
          • Mustard Seed
          • Spiced Marmalade
          • Firebrick Red
  • Ranger Black Archival Ink
  • Sponge Daubers
  • Double-sided Tape
  • Foam Tape
  • Tape Runner
  • 2 ½ circle die cut or punch
  • Heating gun
  • White Cardstock       – cut 4 7/8 by 6 7/8 inches
  • 5 ½ by 8 ½ inches , or the rest of the 8 ½ by 11 inch white cardstock
  • 5 by 7 green cardstock
  • Green cardstock scrap for matting the sentiment
  • “Happy Mother’s Day” stamp from Recollection stamps
  • Light green and dark green Stradtler Marsgraphic duo watercolor markers.   Or any water based markers or watercolor is fine

For some strange reason, it is called the teabag folding which honestly, I have no idea why. But here is the link to the folding instructions.  https://indulgy.com/post/UrN29SOCg2/instructions-for-the-dahlia-tea-bag-fold-use-wit

But I will say that you do not have to use cardstock when folding the flowers, you can use plain paper. Or heck, skip coloring the part and used pattern scrapbook paper. I would recommended of using thicker paper like 140 lb watercolor. It will make it harder to folder. I also used a tape runner on the inside of the folding to keep the flowers folded down.

Other than that, everything has been good. The weather has been finally warming despite the rain, but it is better than snow.

I decided that it would be fun to try this challenge.  I already have a few ideas and hoping to get started on it today after I am finished here.

Anyway, I hope everyone is doing good.

Just Checking In

I know that I haven’t posted in ages.  I do however have at least 2 videos to post and finished a couple of cards.  Just for the past month. anything and everything have been nuts.

I had my last CT scan and somehow that just stressed me out to the what ifs.  What if I had to have brain surgery.  If I have to have brain surgery which means I need to get my final affairs in order.  Which means, I am preparing for death.  And I do not want to die.  To be honest, it was hard to concentrate and do things while thinking you are going to die.

Fortunately, good news that scan came out clear.  The bleeding has stopped and the blood is gone.  Which means no more trips to Calgary.  Just have to focus on getting my knee better and my strength back.

Then everyone in this house got sick including myself.  It is hard to do things which you are coughing up a storm.  Oh heck, try sleeping.  I really like to get over this damn cold like yesterday.  Because of this cold, I couldn’t go to my nephew’s birthday party.

I made these bunnies for my boyfriend’s children. Which itself is ironic because I used the same yarn, same pattern, same crochet hook and same hooker and I ended up with 3 different bunnies.  The left one looks like it is from one of those horror movies.  “Killer Bunny From Hell!”

I also ended up buying chocolates for them. And this was before my boyfriend lectured me of how not to spoil them.  In my defence, it was the first time since I was about to leave house and go shopping by myself since the brain injury.  Plus we are talking about chocolate and not to mention, the box of Lindor  Chocolates that I brought for him for Christmas, well . . . . Dad and I kind of ate it already.

20190427_154732[1]  I am hoping that they like them.  I still have to finish the monkey.  Where I think I finally got a lead to the yarn.  I hope.

I hope everyone had a good weekend.

Fancy Floral Frame

It is funny of how plans go awry and some just leave scratching your head.

This was supposed to be part of my Valentine’s series? I say that with a question mark because I honestly do not know if 2 videos make a series.

20190221_122055[1]   The link is Fancy Flora Frame.

Except doctor’s appointments, assessments, physical rehab, illness and another fall, set everything back. But according to the assessments, everything is fine and on track.  The only bad part is that my balance, the unsteadiness, and the problems with my short term memory are going to last up to a year.

Oh goody.

I was hoping to get job, just myself out of the house, but obviously not until I can get my balance straightened out.

So for now, concentrated on the upcoming sales and the You Tube channel. It will be November before we know it.

But enough of my whining, let’s get back to the frame.

The supplies are as followed:

  • Wooden Frame – ArtMinds Wooden Frame. Size 4 by 6 inch.
  • Recollection Signature Floral Embellishments
  • Glossy Accents
  • Aleene’s Original Tacky Glue –
  • Tim Holtz’s Distress Stain – Vintage Photo
  • Tim Holtz’s Reinkers – Vintage Photo

– Spun Sugar

  • Mini Mister
  • Water
  • Paintbrush
  • Corrugated Cardboard
  • 1 inch Crochet Lace Ribbon from Dollarama
  • Recollection Gems – White
  • Recollection Adhesive Rhinestone Stripe
  • Rubbing Alcohol

I first thought if I splatter rubbing alcohol, it would create a distressed look. You can do that with wet acrylic paint, but apparently not with distressed strain.  Oh well, you live and learn.  Fortunately, water worked perfectly, even after the frame dried.

The picture I used is a dear friend of mine’s dog. Isn’t she cute and only works for belly rubs and dog treats.

The reason that I used a palette knife and a dole for the gluing is mainly because my hand strength has not fully returned. So instead of fighting with the glue and getting very frustrate, I just used a palette knife.

The corrugated cardboard, I found lying around the house and I am thinking why not use it.

So in order to keep up with my hand strength, I have been practising figure drawing.

It is interesting, I still retain the knowledge of how to draw, just my hand and arm muscles needs to learn again. I can only draw for 30 seconds before my arm starts aching.  And honestly, I am still not sure why I am drawing figures since I am not strong in that area, that that before the brain injury.  Why am I am not drawing horses or flowers, especially I can use them for cards.

Valentine’s Day Card

I am still on the mend from my brain injury and knee injury, but I am well enough to work on my You Tube Channel. Granted I am still trying having with my balance and my knee still hurts.  Everyone assured it still takes time and I am making progress.  I know and I know that I have to worst patience when it comes to this.

Moving on, I just finished this You Tube video at Valentine’ Day Card

  • 140 lb watercolor paper cut to 4 7/8 x 6 3/8 and 3 7/8 x 5 3/8
  • White Recollection card 5 x 6 ½
  • Red cardstock cut to 4 ¼ x 5 5/8 and leftover scrap
  • Reeves Watercolor set
  • Paintbrush
  • Water

Other than that, nothing much has been happening. I finally started working on a scarf and cleaning.  It is amazing when you are ill, you let things lie.  In other words, my couch and my art studio table is covered with stuff where it has been stressing out.

I hope everyone is well and doing fine.

An Update on my Health

I thought that I would give you an update of what has been happening.  Not much.  I honestly the recovery would take up to 2 weeks top.  That would be a big NO.  The physical therapist was right that it was going to take a while to get my arm work again.  I had a hard time working on a hat.  And as for art wise, this took me 3 days to complete instead of a day which it normally takes.  I know, I know, recovery takes time and it does suck a lot.

And I was going to get tired a lot.  That lasted for weeks.  But now, I am off the steroids and which I am so relieved.  Not only I was seeing those giant red ants on the wall, my appetite had increased which I did gain wait.  Some of my clothes are tight.  As well I was really rooting and tooting.  Last week, I had to go to back to Calgary, I was hoping and praying that there wasn’t going to be any rooting and tooting or else, I was afraid that my mother would have pulled over and made me walk the rest of the way.  There wasn’t, thank goodness.

But I only had small headache, but I think it was from caffeine withdraw.  I also been avoiding stressful situations like a chicken.  I am terrified of getting headaches because they are a symptom for bleeding.

So no, I didn’t do the December sale which was sad.  But the good news that not only I got my despot on the tables back, but I was able to used it as despot for next year.  So everything from Koda’s Kountry is profit.

As to my health, next week I get a CT scan so fingers crossed that I don’t have the brain surgery.  As for my knee, that fall on the stairway on the first day of the brain bleed, made it worst.  I already seen a doctor about it, and he said it was torn ligaments.  I have to go in for physic, great more physic.  But at least it is not surgery.

I posted a short video in Lesley Creates to explain the long absence.

So what is going to happen now?  Honestly, nothing.  I am going to wait and see of what the CT says.  I going to be positive and say that there is no bleeding, and I am cleared to drive.  And this is a chapter that will be closed in our lives.

If that chapter closed, I am not planning to work on Original Things until the New Year.  I am going to work on Lesley’s stuff like my blanket, my shawl.  And maybe, just maybe make a pair of slippers for myself.  I probably still going to work on cards, watercolor cards and do some art journaling.

As for Lesley Creates, the same, hold off until the New Year.  I still needs to learn about the new editing problem and get some samples done.  As well I ordered a tripod for the channel which has not arrived.

We had a postal strike here in Canada and even though the strike is over.  We are still dealing with the after mass.  They are behind and the people are saying that by the time they catch up, it will in March.  So obviously I cannot do any online shopping, which I was planning to do for my knee’s and the fact, I still cannot drive.

I guess that is all I can say.  So I don’t blog before Christmas.  I want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
