Cupcake Card

Hello,

First of all, I should apologized for not blogging for awhile a bit.  I fell and hit my head hard where I ended up having a concussion.  Then the next day, my family had an emergency so basically all of my energy and time was focus on that.  But the good news is that everything is better and back to normal.

In other news, I finally got my Facebook page for Original Things working so today after this, I am going to work on it some more.  I am debating of whether or not to make a facebook page for my channel, because technically it is for Original Things, just with a different name.  Speaking of a different name, we did changed the name of the page to Lesley’s Original Things because there were 3 or 4 pages of Original Things.

So back to work.  I hope everyone is well.

Anniversary Card

I know it seemed ages since I last blogged and posted a video.  It has been so hot with temperatures reaching up to 34C.  The air conditioner has been on all of the time.  And of course, it is right beside the computer.  In order to work on this computer, I have to turn off the air conditioner.  And honestly, that wasn’t going to happen.  My dad almost suffered a heat stroke from this heat.  Not to mention, I have been sick.  It has been too hot where I can’t eat and that made me feel more sick.  Terrific.

20180730_180617(0)[1]

So during this heat wave, it was my parent’s 62nd wedding anniversary. No, it is not a typo, they are actually married for 62 years.  What is their secret?  I already asked my mother that and she had no idea.

The video of the card is : Anniversary Card

The supplies I used are:

  • Truck stamp from CLDo1 from Stampendous.  Xmas Stamp and Die – You can use holiday stamps for regular cards, just use your imaginations.
  • Watercolor scrap paper – in this case, I used 120 lb paper
  • Tim Holtz’s reinker, Vintage Photo
  • Recollection Paint Brushes – Black
  • Small round brush
  • Cuttlebug with the plates
  • Beige cardstock measuring 4 by 4 1/2 inches
  • Clearly sentimental Stamp, about Anniversaries from My Favourite Things
  • Double-sided tape
  • White Glue
  • Recollection Red Card – 5 by 6 1/2 inche
  • Kraft Cardstock – 4 6/8 by 6 1/4
  • Black Archival Ink from Ranger
  • Clear Emboss Powder
  • Anti-Static bag
  • Washi Burlap Tape – 6 1/4 inch long

I almost finished another video which I planned to post next week, assuming the weather is on my side.

Other than that, things have been slow cause of this heat.  I am trying to get some stuff done for the Bentley sale in November and December.  It takes up to two weeks to knit a scarf for example.  And before I know, it will October and I am going be one mad knitter.

I hope everyone stays cool in this summer.

From Sketch to Card . . . Father’s Day Card

I know that I had cut it close . . . again with the holiday cards.

Here is the link to the video Father’s Day Card

I don’t know if you may recalled, but several months, we had a small tornado that hit our town. As far as I recalled, no one was hurt.  But there was major damage to the properties, including my house.  The good news is that we only lost a few shingles on our roof.   The neighbours behind us half of their roof was gone.  So obviously we were down on the waiting list of getting our roof repaired.

Well this week, we finally got our turn and oh boy. The constant banging for the past week has given me several bad headaches and reasons to go out shopping to buy useless stuff, just so I can get of the house.  Shoot, I finally cleaned out a shelving unit, getting rid of some of my stuff, I really do not need any more stuff.  Not to mention, I am supposed to be on a budget.

I also going to apologized for me being listening to my MP3 player while making the video. I do not know if it is rude according to the You Tube equittes, but honestly, I would rather listen to Ricky Martin, “She Bangs” to the banging on the ceiling.

20180616_155028(0)[1]

Here are the supplies that I used:

  • 5 X 6 ½ inch Kraft Card
  • 12 x 12 Recollection Pattern paper, “Wood Slate” cut down to 4 ¾ x 6 ¼ inches
  • 3 x 4 inch Recollection Pattern paper, “Green Faux Canvas”
  • 2 by 6 ½ inch corrugated cardboard strip
  • 4 inch circle from 90 lb watercolor paper
  • Happy Father’s Day stamp by Recollection
  • Leaf Stamp by Craft Smart
  • Versamark Ink Pad
  • White Embossing Powder
  • Clear Embossing Powder
  • Tim Holtz’s Distressed Inks:
          • Frayed Burlap
          • Mowed Lawn
          • Vintage Photo
          • Antique Linen
  • Double side Tape
  • Green Button
  • White Embroidery Thread

This card was quite a challenge. Honestly, Father’s Day and sympathy cards are the hardest card for me to make.  I know with Sympathy, I really do make them unless I have to.  Like my friend J and I get together to make cards, we usually don’t, “Oh boy, oh boy, let’s make some sympathy cards.”  Birthday cards are more fun than sympathy.

Halloween is the next holiday, so hopefully I can make that one in time.

I hope everyone is well

Happy Mother’s Day

First for those who recently joined the mailing list of my blog, I welcome you. I am curious of where you found my blog.  So if you don’t mind of answering my question in my comments, I would really appreciate it.

With Mother’s day fast approaching, I decide to make both a video and my mom a card all in one. I warned my brother not to show my mom this video not until after Mother’s Day.  But I have a feeling that she will see it before.  Oh well.

The link to the video is Mother’s Day Card

As for supplies, you will need:

  • 5 by 6 ½ Recollection Red Card
  • 140 lb watercolor paper cut down to 4 7/8 by 6 3/8 inches
  • Inkadinkados Mason Jar stamp
  • 3D Roses Viva Décor Stamps, I used the medium size rose
  • Anti-Static Bag
  • White Ink
  • White Embossing Powder
  • Acrylic Block
  • Double sided tape
  • Foam Tape
  • White Lace ribbon
  • Yellow cardstock cut to 2 by 5 inches
  • Happy Mother’s Day stamp by Recollection
  • Tim Holtz’s Reinkers, Mustard Seed and Spun Sugar
  • Tim Holtz’s Distress Stain, Broken China

I first saw this technique done by Kristina Werner’s channel and instantly fell in love with it. Her link is here:

Kristina’s watercolor technique

I do admit this technique does appear easy, but does take practise. The hard part is just adding the paint and not soaking the paper to the bone.  You only have one shot to this.

This was my second attempted to the painting. The first one, I kind of overdid it with the heating gun.  Where I learned that burnt watercolor paper smells like toasted marshmallows.  And unfortunately, there was a big burnt mark right in the middle which I couldn’t fix it, so I had to reshoot the entire video.

But I am hoping to say that I am getting better, putting aside that little incident.

Other than that, things are good. Unfortunately I twisted my knee when I was picking up a bottle of paint, so I have been on pain killers and not doing much work. And the weather is finally warming up to where I actually packed my winter coat away for hopefully many months.

All the songs are by Dan Lebowitz. I thought it was perfect since my mom is a big country fan.

I hope everyone has a great Mother’s day.

Bentley Spring Sale

Last weekend, was the Bentley Spring Sale.  I have to admit it felt strange of going there in complete daylight.  Usually it is before the sun hasn’t even rise.  Don’t worry, we weren’t late, it the time difference.

I did a quick video of the sale.  Bentley Spring Sale

Now for the starters, I didn’t film while drove to the Bentley Community Hall, that was my mom.  I am not that foolish.

The only bad part of the video was that I couldn’t filmed myself while doing the sale.  Short arms and all.  And my mother who helped me, she does not know of how to use her smart phone.  Hopefully in November, I can figure it out or teach mom of how to use the camera.

But the sale was ok.  The people who were in charged of it even brought pizza for us which was added bonus.

So if you are asking me if I would do the sale again, to be honest, I am not sure.  The cards sold well.  But I didn’t have any “spring” knitted/ crochet items.

So what is “Spring” knitting and crocheting?

  • Headbands
  • Crochet Flowers
  • Shopping bags, with yarn and plastic bags
  • Slippers
  • Dishcloths
  • Placemats
  • Bathmats — maybe bathmats with facecloths as a set
  • Toys

Well that is a start.

Meanwhile this week was suppose to be my holiday.  As much as I like the idea of sitting on the beach with those drinks with the umbrellas in it appeals to me, but it didn’t happen, due to the snow on the ground.  Everything that I was able to put off like taxes until after the sale, I had to do.  But I did do my own knitting, actually worked on my own blanket which was nice.

I hope everyone has a good weekend.

3 Bunny Easter Card

For those who have recently subscribed to my blog, I bid you welcome and I hope you enjoy my blog and channel.

I posted another video, Easter which I know it is less than a hour away.  And there are a few mistakes in the video.  I have no idea of how I posted a set of instructions twice.  Nuts. I know, I know, it is a learning progress.  I need to be patience.

The link to the video is 3 Bunny Card

The supplies that I used are simple:

  • 5×7 pink card
  • 12 x 12 Pink Bunny/ Lapis Rose Pattern paper from Recollection
  • Bunny Stamp from Inkadinkado
  • Easter Sentiment stamp from Craft Smart Stamps
  • White ink, Color Box
  • White Embossing powders
  • Embossing sack or a dryer sheet
  • Martha Stewart Edge Punch – Double Loop Punch
  • Square Punch 1 1/2 inch
  • Heating Gun
  • Bone Folder
  • Paper Cutter
  • Double Sided Tape
  • White Cardstock
  • White ribbon
  • Scissors

One of the channels that I watched on YouTube is  Mike Deakin

where I learned the double sided tape trick.  I can still adjust paper before finally gluing it down completely, saving me a bunch of headaches of having cards with papers that do not align.  It drives me nuts.

Anyway, I hope everyone has a good Easter.  I find it funny that it is on the same day as April’s Fool Day.  I wondered when that will happen again.  Probably not for another 100 years.

I will talk to you soon.

Valentine’s Day Card

For those who are reading this blog for the first time, welcome to my blog.  I should clear something up before I continued.  As you may noticed my channel is called “Lesley Creates” and the name of my business is called “Original Things“.  The simple explanation was when I was creating this channel, the name Original Things was already taken.  And I didn’t really like Original Things 2.  Since my name is Lesley, I came up with Lesley Creates.

I done my first video, and I am sorry for the editing mistakes.  I am hoping that I will improve with practise.

For those are not from You Tube, here is the link the video.

Valentine’s Day Card

Here is the list for the card:

  • 90 lb watercolor paper cut to 2 by 6 1/2 inches
  • red cardstock cut to 3 by 6 1/2 inches
  • Inkadinkado Heart stamps

  • Sizzlex Flower Layer #3 Die
  • White cardstock, roughly cut to 5 by 6 inches
