Decluttering Original Things

I have been so busy trying to declutter and clean up my art studio, my bedroom, my place that I forgotten to declutter Original Things.

And I know you are thinking, “Lesley, how are you are going to declutter Original Things?” It is almost the middle of October and I haven’t even posted a video for Halloween.  I actually planned 4 videos for this month.  This honestly really stressed me out to the point where I was physically sick again.  I am breaking out in rashes again and dealing with insomnia and anxiety.

My big sale is in the beginning of next month, and I still need to make more stuff.  Let alone, some of you known that Halloween is a very emotional time for me.   So I made a decision to save my sanity.

I am NOT quitting You Tube, but I am going to take some time off.  Which I know that is suicide for the You Tube community.  But right now, the sale is more important that Halloween.  As well I still haven’t got You Tube down pact.  I did downloaded Shotcut, the new editing program, but I still haven’t taken the time to watch the editorals and figure it out.  It takes me two days to edit on my cell and how many days to film a video.  Days that I need to be working on knitted and crochet things as well as cards.

I am not quitting, I am just prioritizing my sanity. After the December sales, things should slow down, hopefully.

Hope everyone is well.

Standing Still

I am not sure of how to explain of how I have been feeling lately.  The big part where there are neon arrows pointing to is that I have been sick for the past week.  I have actually stayed in bed for three days, feeling like garbage.

So ok, it is probably perfectly understandable when I say that I am having a hard time getting back into my groove when it comes to cards, yarn and videos.  Maybe I haven’t gotten my full strength back yet?  Right now, it is taking a lot of energy to wiped down my craft table and work on a simple scarf.  That could be it.

So maybe the illness of whatever I was suffering is still lingering?   I honestly have no idea, I am not a doctor.  But if I am still sick, I am going to be seeing a doctor, because this is not helping.  Even though the big craft sale is in November, 4 months away.   It still takes time to make stuff.  I am really hoping to go on a little holiday during the summer and I am not bringing any stuff to work on.

The bad part of being sick is that I let my mind wander.  Wander to new ideas of for the next You Tube videos or what can I sell.  Some ideas are good, while some . . . I am blaming it all on the illness.  Yeah, that bad.

So I am just checking in, to let everyone know of what is happening.  I am planning to have some more to post next time.

I hope everyone is well.

Mini Storage Jars

Some of you may recalled a blog about these jars that I made around December of last year.

The link to it is https://lesleysoriginalthings.wordpress.com/2017/12/11/storage-jars/

Since I finally cleaned out my computer desk, I had plastic containers and even a chipped glass for pencils sharpers, erasers, and even USB chips. Which honestly I can say, “Seriously, these are very ugly.”  So I made these mini storage jars

Mini Storage Jars

The supplies I used are pretty much simple and I already had this around the house.

  • Acrylic paint. I used of what I had in my stash which was Craft Smart, Grass Green. (find the brand names for the black and white paint)
  • Paint brushes
  • Sharp pencil
  • Mason Jar
  • ½ inch circle punch
  • Scrap cardstock, doesn’t matter what color, I used it as a stencil for the eyes

And yes, this time, I made sure that everything fitted inside the jar before I started painting.

This time, I had 3 big problems which I am really hoping it is an improvement. The first one that we had 2 blacks out during the filming.  So I had to wait until the power came back on before I can think of continuing.  So that was out of my control.

The second problem and you can probably guess it. Drying time.  I couldn’t use the heating gun on these jars because I was afraid that the heat might peel the paint off of the jars.

My third one and this one was a doozy. I knew that I record myself painting the face, except I couldn’t find the footage.  I had a choice of either skipping the footage, but then I suspect, it wouldn’t make sense to everyone of how I added the face.  Or I redo the whole video.

I talked to a few people and Lady L suggest that I do the face, but on paper, actually watercolor to be more precise. She also suggest that I have a glass of wine while editing this video.  Now that one was probably best advise that I had all week.

So here is the finished painting which is now going to be sent as mail art. I just have to pick someone to send it.

As for the wine, unfortunately, it wasn’t good. It tasted like dog biscuits.  It is hard to find a good bottle at a cheap price.  Now I am stuck with a full bottle of wine which I don’t know of what to do with it.

However my desk looks much more cleaner.

I can honestly say that now I have eyes watching me as I typed this out. It is a little creepy.  Oh good grief.

Making Time

There is a song from the Rolling Stones, that say, “Time is not on my side.”

Well, it is true.

Or maybe I have bad time management skills.

It has taken me over 2 weeks to make a You Tube video.  And yes, I realized that the last one took longer because of the glue drying.

But take “Do it On a Dime” and “Vasseur Beauty” for example.  Kathryn from Do it on a Dime has two young boys and somehow manages to make a couple of videos every week.  Brittney from Vasseur, has a toddler son and works at her family’s company and still able to make a couple of videos every week.  So why am I taking so long?

  • The gluing incident for one
  • I am not used to it.  I am still learning as I go.

As well as the upcoming April sale which I should have more cards and hats done, but I do not.

So this week, I have been keeping track of my time, seeing what if any is the problem.

And yes, there is.  After dinner last Monday, my stomach flared where I had to lie down for a few hours.  It wasn’t until after ten that I was feeling better to do some work.

Except after ten is when the sun goes down.  And I need natural light to work for the cards.  Somehow my lamp gives off this yellowish tint which is fine for knitting.  But it does make my white and cream color cardstock appear to be the same color.

A better lamp may be on my birthday or Christmas wish list.

I hope everyone has a good weekend.

Valentine’s Day Card

For those who are reading this blog for the first time, welcome to my blog.  I should clear something up before I continued.  As you may noticed my channel is called “Lesley Creates” and the name of my business is called “Original Things“.  The simple explanation was when I was creating this channel, the name Original Things was already taken.  And I didn’t really like Original Things 2.  Since my name is Lesley, I came up with Lesley Creates.

I done my first video, and I am sorry for the editing mistakes.  I am hoping that I will improve with practise.

For those are not from You Tube, here is the link the video.

Valentine’s Day Card

Here is the list for the card:

  • 5 by 6 1/2 inch white Recollection card
  • 90 lb watercolor paper cut to 2 by 6 1/2 inches

Goodbye 2017, Hello 2018

So it is a brand new year which means New Years Resolutions.

So what are mine, you ask?

Fantasy wised:

  1. No more back pain
  2. Win the lottery

Practical:

  1. Get the logo figure out.
  2. Open an online store.
  3. Clean out the filing cabinet for more storage.
  4. Redesign this blog.

Realistically, (what will likely happen):

  1. Sleep in more
  2. Drink more slurpees.
  3. Give into more impulse buying.

I am honestly not holding my breath on the logo.  I prefer the store and the filing cabinet to do be done first.  Heaven knows, I need more storage space.  And there are stuff in the filing cabinet that I haven’t touched in years.  So why I am still keeping it.

Although I have no idea of what I will be storing in there.  I might just get rid of it and get more bookshelves.  Who knows.

I am hoping that everyone had a good Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Don’t Let the Boxes Fool You.

So in amidst of cleaning, I finally sorted out my scrap paper box and got it organized.  I think that is the second hardest thing to organized in my little art space.  Stamps are still number one.  However you will be happy to hear that I finished going through the wooden stamps and gave the ones that I don’t used anymore to my friend J.  She really loves me now.  But I digress again.

So last Monday, I picked up the scrap paper box as I have done before several times.  Except this time, something happened.  I pulled a muscle in my back.  Ouch is right.  So after my shower, I took a couple of muscle relaxers and the worst case with them, I ended up talking to furniture.

Well not this time, I ended up being sick as a dog for the next three days.  Although I am kind of thinking that it might have been stress that made me sick.  I have been dealing with stress of my boyfriend’s daughter health problems, orders and now with Halloween coming up.  And the biggest stress is the upcoming sales in Bentley.  As usual, I have that little voice in my head telling me that I don’t have enough.  I know, I know, “Lesley, stop listening to the voices in your head.”

Finally Friday, I dragged myself out of bed and went out to pick up some rubber cement for mail art.  My back is still sore, but very SLOWLY getting better.  It is testing my patience again.  And I can’t work on my cards or albums until my back is better because I am constantly bending down and picking up stuff.  I can however knit and crochet so I am working on a scarf right now.  But I want to paint and do some mail art.  I know, I know, I am never happy.

I hope everyone is having a good weekend.
