Easter Tin Basket

Things had changed differently since I last blogged with the threat of Corvis-19 looming over us. The world had pretty much stop spinning.  We cannot leave the house unless it is for food, doctors, or gas.

However right here in Red Deer, there is another reason for staying.  It is snowing.  It’s April and it is freezing cold.  Too damn cold to leave.  Not to mention my knee is still giving me grief.  A ton of grief.

I had one video that is almost done; just need a few steps before completion. Steps that including spray painting outside.  And again, it is too damn cold.

Some of the experts say take the time to reflect, learn something new. And yet, it is ok, not to do anything.  People handle crisis differently.

So how am I handling it? To be honestly, before the quarantine, I haven’t left the house.  My knee is still bothering me and my car still doesn’t work.  The only difference, is that I started seeing doctors about my knee and balance.

They are talking about surgery on my knee and spine. I haven’t made up my mind on yet.  The spine doctor needs another MRI and x-ray before making the final decision.  However with the virus, it has been pushed back.  My big concern it having it inferred with my mom’s hip surgery.  That is the last thing I wanted.

Meanwhile, I did managed to do this video for Easter.

20200410_150553[1]

The video is: Easter Tin Basket

The template for the bunnies are: Bunny Template

The Supply List

  • Tin from the Dollar Tree
  • Glass Cleaner and Rag
  • Tape Runner
  • Scissors
  • Paintbrushes
  • Chalk Erasable Marker
  • Folk Art Acrylic Paint    – Parisian Pink
  • Medium Yellow
  • Green Acrylic Paint
  • White Acrylic Paint
  • Black Sharpie Marker

I do admit that I sped up the video a few times. Who wants to watch me painting bunnies in real time, not to mention 3 layers.

I did make the mistake at the end. When I explained of why I couldn’t varnish the tin, cause of the snow, it was suppose the show the snow while I was explaining it.  Instead it showed it at the end.  And by then, it was too late to fix the mistake.

Oh I almost forgot to type this part.

The songs, “Beach Walk,” and “Hurt So Good Blues” by Unicorn’s Head are available at the You Tube Library.

Corrugated Valentine’s Day Card

Corrugated Valentine’s Day Card

So yes, I know it has been months since I last uploaded a video. I know it has been a long time, but honestly, my health is still not at its tip top shape.  Trust me, I know it stinks.  I am really hoping to improve in the future.  I already have a few ideas for Easter, which would be nice to have it work out.

20200208_115459(0)[1]

The video is at: https://youtu.be/vkWe5MX9pcY

This is a simple Valentine’s Day card. The supplies you need are as follow:

  • 5×7 Kraft Card
  • Kraft cardstock
  • White cardstock
  • Brown cardstock
  • Corrugated Cardboard
  • Wide Burlap Ribbon
  • White Lace Ribbon
  • Paper Trimmer
  • Cocoa – Colorbox Pigment Stamp Pad
  • Black Ranger Archival Ink
  • Double Sided tape
  • Aleene Original Tacky Glue
  • Plastic Palette Knife (option)
  • Tim Holtz’s Distressed Stain – Vintage Photo
  • Heart Stamp Set from Inkadinkado stamps
  • “Be My Valentine” stamp from Craftsmart
  • Manuscript Background Stamp- Recollection, but that stamp has been discontinued.

The songs that I used are called, “Waterfall”, “Invisible Beauty”, “Dreamland”, “Til Death Part Us,” and “Arms of Heaven” are from the Youtube Libriary.

I know you will notice the palette knife on the list of supplies and thinking why is it there? The reason is simple, I am still having trouble with the glue, my hand strength is still not there yet.

I hope everyone is doing ok and trying to warm in this long cold winter.

In The Year 2020

It is hard to believe that it is already 2020.  This is the year where we supposed to have rocket ships and traveling to the moon would be easy to travel to Mexico.  Well obviously, that didn’t happen.

As well as two Christmas videos that I had planned, that didn’t work.

I had another setback in my recovery.  I am having a very hard time of getting around.  I don’t know if it is the cold weather or the fall, but both of my legs are very stiff and walking around it is very painful.  Oh heck, it has taken me 3 days just to get to the compute to type out this blog because of the pain and the effects of the painkillers.  They work, but they also make me sleep a lot.

The MRI that scheduled last month . . . well . . . lets just it was a disaster is putting it nicely.  I ended up having a panic attack and muscle spasms.  So it has been postponed until March.  With a strong recommendation to get a prescription of a tranquiller.

I was counting on that MRI so I have an idea of what is going on and what is the next step.  Especially with the craft sales.

So the question is what to do now.  I am honestly hoping and praying that I do not become like Peg Bundy.  Although that is what I have been doing for the last week or so.  Sitting on my butt, watching tv.  My Christmas cards are not even done.  I even had to get my brother to do some of my Christmas shopping.

I am hoping to work on You Tube, but that is going to depend on my knee.  Which is ironic because this is perfect time to do more videos.  I’m also been thinking of taking an online course.  I am not sure which one yet.  I am still researching and the biggest factor is I do not want to jeopardized my healing.

I hope everyone had a good new year.

You Tube and COPPA

So I have less than 3 days before Bentley Christmas Sale on Saturday.  So instead of working on last minute cards or knitting a scarf, I have been fretting over You Tube.  A few months ago, FTC had fine You Tube for violating the COPPA (Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act).  Whereas now You Tube had tighten its reins.

Now don’t get me wrong, there are some videos that I do not think that my nieces and nephews should watch.  To be completely honestly, they should never see them in their entire life.  And yes, I am an overprotective aunt and I will not apologize for it.

However because of the new rules that You Tube has set, it has turned the arts and craft channel into one giant grey area.  And they are saying that we used bright colors or happy music, considered child content.  Nothing is wrong child content except for two major things.

#1.  I don’t get paid.  I am not in it for money.  I have to have at least 1,000 subscribers and I am long away off.  However some of the channels do make money, and it is part of their livelihood.

#2.  You cannot comment in the videos.  So if someone has a question, they can’t ask me in the comment section.

So what did I do in the beginning.  Honestly, nothing computer wise.  Meaning, I whined to everyone who would listen to me in real life.  Ok, that was mature, I realized.  But I didn’t want to delete my channel.  I have heard some people had already deleted their channel.  I had thought of deleting mine, but then the question of what am I going to do now scared me.

And if I was in violation, I would be fined.  $50,000.

$50,000

Can we say oh crap.

Fortunately it has cleared up a bit where I had changed all of my videos to adults.  I honestly, I didn’t like it because my videos are not considered adult.  I don’t swear and the only bad things that happened in my videos is that I misspelled a work and the tripod falling over.  But it is better safe than sorry.

The other thing is that I am not allow to use copyright or fan art.  Like for example, I can’t paint a painting of Mickey Mouse or Channing Tatum.  I mean, I can, but it is a not allow on you tube.  I had two fan based videos planned out.

So right now, my plans are to get through Bentley sale, have that MRI on my knee and enjoy Christmas.  I am still going to make videos.  I have an idea on a penguin wreath, but right now,  Bentley sale is my first priority.

I hope every one is ok.

Folded Flowers Mother’s Day Card

To be honest, this was my second attempt at this video. I actually was almost finished with the first video when my phone shut down and somehow the whole footage was deleted.  Needless to say, I was not a happy camper.  The link to the video is:https://youtu.be/LaRWZR5Pq1g

The supplies I used were:

  • Tim Holtz’s Distressed Ink:
          • Mowed Lawn
          • Peacock Blue
          • Antique Linen
          • Pickled Raspberry
          • Mustard Seed
          • Spiced Marmalade
          • Firebrick Red
  • Ranger Black Archival Ink
  • Sponge Daubers
  • Double-sided Tape
  • Foam Tape
  • Tape Runner
  • 2 ½ circle die cut or punch
  • Heating gun
  • White Cardstock       – cut 4 7/8 by 6 7/8 inches
  • 5 ½ by 8 ½ inches , or the rest of the 8 ½ by 11 inch white cardstock
  • 5 by 7 green cardstock
  • Green cardstock scrap for matting the sentiment
  • “Happy Mother’s Day” stamp from Recollection stamps
  • Light green and dark green Stradtler Marsgraphic duo watercolor markers.   Or any water based markers or watercolor is fine

For some strange reason, it is called the teabag folding which honestly, I have no idea why. But here is the link to the folding instructions.  https://indulgy.com/post/UrN29SOCg2/instructions-for-the-dahlia-tea-bag-fold-use-wit

But I will say that you do not have to use cardstock when folding the flowers, you can use plain paper. Or heck, skip coloring the part and used pattern scrapbook paper. I would recommended of using thicker paper like 140 lb watercolor. It will make it harder to folder. I also used a tape runner on the inside of the folding to keep the flowers folded down.

Other than that, everything has been good. The weather has been finally warming despite the rain, but it is better than snow.

I decided that it would be fun to try this challenge.  I already have a few ideas and hoping to get started on it today after I am finished here.

Anyway, I hope everyone is doing good.

Just Checking In

Hello,

I know that I haven’t posted in ages.  I do however have at least 2 videos to post and finished a couple of cards.  Just for the past month. anything and everything have been nuts.

I had my last CT scan and somehow that just stressed me out to the what ifs.  What if I had to have brain surgery.  If I have to have brain surgery which means I need to get my final affairs in order.  Which means, I am preparing for death.  And I do not want to die.  To be honest, it was hard to concentrate and do things while thinking you are going to die.

Fortunately, good news that scan came out clear.  The bleeding has stopped and the blood is gone.  Which means no more trips to Calgary.  Just have to focus on getting my knee better and my strength back.

Then everyone in this house got sick including myself.  It is hard to do things which you are coughing up a storm.  Oh heck, try sleeping.  I really like to get over this damn cold like yesterday.  Because of this cold, I couldn’t go to my nephew’s birthday party.

I made these bunnies for my boyfriend’s children. Which itself is ironic because I used the same yarn, same pattern, same crochet hook and same hooker and I ended up with 3 different bunnies.  The left one looks like it is from one of those horror movies.  “Killer Bunny From Hell!”

I also ended up buying chocolates for them. And this was before my boyfriend lectured me of how not to spoil them.  In my defence, it was the first time since I was about to leave house and go shopping by myself since the brain injury.  Plus we are talking about chocolate and not to mention, the box of Lindor  Chocolates that I brought for him for Christmas, well . . . . Dad and I kind of ate it already.

20190427_154732[1]  I am hoping that they like them.  I still have to finish the monkey.  Where I think I finally got a lead to the yarn.  I hope.

I hope everyone had a good weekend.

Fancy Floral Frame

It is funny of how plans go awry and some just leave scratching your head.

This was supposed to be part of my Valentine’s series? I say that with a question mark because I honestly do not know if 2 videos make a series.

20190221_122055[1]   The link is Fancy Flora Frame.

Except doctor’s appointments, assessments, physical rehab, illness and another fall, set everything back. But according to the assessments, everything is fine and on track.  The only bad part is that my balance, the unsteadiness, and the problems with my short term memory are going to last up to a year.

Oh goody.

I was hoping to get job, just myself out of the house, but obviously not until I can get my balance straightened out.

So for now, concentrated on the upcoming sales and the You Tube channel. It will be November before we know it.

But enough of my whining, let’s get back to the frame.

The supplies are as followed:

  • Wooden Frame – ArtMinds Wooden Frame. Size 4 by 6 inch.
  • Recollection Signature Floral Embellishments
  • Glossy Accents
  • Aleene’s Original Tacky Glue –
  • Tim Holtz’s Distress Stain – Vintage Photo
  • Tim Holtz’s Reinkers – Vintage Photo

– Spun Sugar

  • Mini Mister
  • Water
  • Paintbrush
  • Corrugated Cardboard
  • 1 inch Crochet Lace Ribbon from Dollarama
  • Recollection Gems – White
  • Recollection Adhesive Rhinestone Stripe
  • Rubbing Alcohol

I first thought if I splatter rubbing alcohol, it would create a distressed look. You can do that with wet acrylic paint, but apparently not with distressed strain.  Oh well, you live and learn.  Fortunately, water worked perfectly, even after the frame dried.

The picture I used is a dear friend of mine’s dog. Isn’t she cute and only works for belly rubs and dog treats.

The reason that I used a palette knife and a dole for the gluing is mainly because my hand strength has not fully returned. So instead of fighting with the glue and getting very frustrate, I just used a palette knife.

The corrugated cardboard, I found lying around the house and I am thinking why not use it.

So in order to keep up with my hand strength, I have been practising figure drawing.

It is interesting, I still retain the knowledge of how to draw, just my hand and arm muscles needs to learn again. I can only draw for 30 seconds before my arm starts aching.  And honestly, I am still not sure why I am drawing figures since I am not strong in that area, that that before the brain injury.  Why am I am not drawing horses or flowers, especially I can use them for cards.

Valentine’s Day Card

I am still on the mend from my brain injury and knee injury, but I am well enough to work on my You Tube Channel. Granted I am still trying having with my balance and my knee still hurts.  Everyone assured it still takes time and I am making progress.  I know and I know that I have to worst patience when it comes to this.

20190122_122534

Moving on, I just finished this You Tube video at Valentine’ Day Card

The supplies I used are:

  • 140 lb watercolor paper cut to 4 7/8 x 6 3/8 and 3 7/8 x 5 3/8
  • White Recollection card 5 x 6 ½
  • Red cardstock cut to 4 ¼ x 5 5/8 and leftover scrap
  • Reeves Watercolor set
  • Paintbrush
  • Water
  • Inkadinkado stamps, “Hearts”
  • Anti-Static Pad
  • Versamark Ink
  • Tim Holtz’s Distressed Ink, “Fire Brick Red”
  • White Embossing Powder
  • Black Embossing Powder
  • White Cardstock scrap
  • Happy Valentine’s Day stamp by Recollection
  • Double-sided tape

I having another idea for another Valentine Day video which I hope to start today.

Other than that, nothing much has been happening. I finally started working on a scarf and cleaning.  It is amazing when you are ill, you let things lie.  In other words, my couch and my art studio table is covered with stuff where it has been stressing out.

I hope everyone is well and doing fine.

An Update on my Health

I thought that I would give you an update of what has been happening.  Not much.  I honestly the recovery would take up to 2 weeks top.  That would be a big NO.  The physical therapist was right that it was going to take a while to get my arm work again.  I had a hard time working on a hat.  And as for art wise, this took me 3 days to complete instead of a day which it normally takes.  I know, I know, recovery takes time and it does suck a lot.

20181125_141155(0)[1]

And I was going to get tired a lot.  That lasted for weeks.  But now, I am off the steroids and which I am so relieved.  Not only I was seeing those giant red ants on the wall, my appetite had increased which I did gain wait.  Some of my clothes are tight.  As well I was really rooting and tooting.  Last week, I had to go to back to Calgary, I was hoping and praying that there wasn’t going to be any rooting and tooting or else, I was afraid that my mother would have pulled over and made me walk the rest of the way.  There wasn’t, thank goodness.

But I only had small headache, but I think it was from caffeine withdraw.  I also been avoiding stressful situations like a chicken.  I am terrified of getting headaches because they are a symptom for bleeding.

So no, I didn’t do the December sale which was sad.  But the good news that not only I got my despot on the tables back, but I was able to used it as despot for next year.  So everything from Koda’s Kountry is profit.

As to my health, next week I get a CT scan so fingers crossed that I don’t have the brain surgery.  As for my knee, that fall on the stairway on the first day of the brain bleed, made it worst.  I already seen a doctor about it, and he said it was torn ligaments.  I have to go in for physic, great more physic.  But at least it is not surgery.

I posted a short video in Lesley Creates to explain the long absence.

Announcement

So what is going to happen now?  Honestly, nothing.  I am going to wait and see of what the CT says.  I going to be positive and say that there is no bleeding, and I am cleared to drive.  And this is a chapter that will be closed in our lives.

If that chapter closed, I am not planning to work on Original Things until the New Year.  I am going to work on Lesley’s stuff like my blanket, my shawl.  And maybe, just maybe make a pair of slippers for myself.  I probably still going to work on cards, watercolor cards and do some art journaling.

As for Lesley Creates, the same, hold off until the New Year.  I still needs to learn about the new editing problem and get some samples done.  As well I ordered a tripod for the channel which has not arrived.

We had a postal strike here in Canada and even though the strike is over.  We are still dealing with the after mass.  They are behind and the people are saying that by the time they catch up, it will in March.  So obviously I cannot do any online shopping, which I was planning to do for my knee’s and the fact, I still cannot drive.

I guess that is all I can say.  So I don’t blog before Christmas.  I want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Decluttering Original Things

I have been so busy trying to declutter and clean up my art studio, my bedroom, my place that I forgotten to declutter Original Things.

And I know you are thinking, “Lesley, how are you are going to declutter Original Things?” It is almost the middle of October and I haven’t even posted a video for Halloween.  I actually planned 4 videos for this month.  This honestly really stressed me out to the point where I was physically sick again.  I am breaking out in rashes again and dealing with insomnia and anxiety.

My big sale is in the beginning of next month, and I still need to make more stuff.  Let alone, some of you known that Halloween is a very emotional time for me.   So I made a decision to save my sanity.

I am NOT quitting You Tube, but I am going to take some time off.  Which I know that is suicide for the You Tube community.  But right now, the sale is more important that Halloween.  As well I still haven’t got You Tube down pact.  I did downloaded Shotcut, the new editing program, but I still haven’t taken the time to watch the editorals and figure it out.  It takes me two days to edit on my cell and how many days to film a video.  Days that I need to be working on knitted and crochet things as well as cards.

I am not quitting, I am just prioritizing my sanity. After the December sales, things should slow down, hopefully.

Hope everyone is well.
