Folded Flowers Mother’s Day Card

To be honest, this was my second attempt at this video. I actually was almost finished with the first video when my phone shut down and somehow the whole footage was deleted.  Needless to say, I was not a happy camper.  The link to the video is:https://youtu.be/LaRWZR5Pq1g

The supplies I used were:

  • Tim Holtz’s Distressed Ink:
          • Mowed Lawn
          • Peacock Blue
          • Antique Linen
          • Pickled Raspberry
          • Mustard Seed
          • Spiced Marmalade
          • Firebrick Red
  • Ranger Black Archival Ink
  • Sponge Daubers
  • Double-sided Tape
  • Foam Tape
  • Tape Runner
  • 2 ½ circle die cut or punch
  • Heating gun
  • White Cardstock       – cut 4 7/8 by 6 7/8 inches
  • 5 ½ by 8 ½ inches , or the rest of the 8 ½ by 11 inch white cardstock
  • 5 by 7 green cardstock
  • Green cardstock scrap for matting the sentiment
  • “Happy Mother’s Day” stamp from Recollection stamps
  • Light green and dark green Stradtler Marsgraphic duo watercolor markers.   Or any water based markers or watercolor is fine

For some strange reason, it is called the teabag folding which honestly, I have no idea why. But here is the link to the folding instructions.  https://indulgy.com/post/UrN29SOCg2/instructions-for-the-dahlia-tea-bag-fold-use-wit

But I will say that you do not have to use cardstock when folding the flowers, you can use plain paper. Or heck, skip coloring the part and used pattern scrapbook paper. I would recommended of using thicker paper like 140 lb watercolor. It will make it harder to folder. I also used a tape runner on the inside of the folding to keep the flowers folded down.

Other than that, everything has been good. The weather has been finally warming despite the rain, but it is better than snow.

I decided that it would be fun to try this challenge.  I already have a few ideas and hoping to get started on it today after I am finished here.

Anyway, I hope everyone is doing good.

Happy Mother’s Day

First for those who recently joined the mailing list of my blog, I welcome you. I am curious of where you found my blog.  So if you don’t mind of answering my question in my comments, I would really appreciate it.

With Mother’s day fast approaching, I decide to make both a video and my mom a card all in one. I warned my brother not to show my mom this video not until after Mother’s Day.  But I have a feeling that she will see it before.  Oh well.

The link to the video is Mother’s Day Card

As for supplies, you will need:

  • 5 by 6 ½ Recollection Red Card
  • 140 lb watercolor paper cut down to 4 7/8 by 6 3/8 inches
  • Inkadinkados Mason Jar stamp
  • 3D Roses Viva Décor Stamps, I used the medium size rose
  • Anti-Static Bag
  • White Ink
  • White Embossing Powder
  • Acrylic Block
  • Double sided tape
  • Foam Tape
  • White Lace ribbon
  • Yellow cardstock cut to 2 by 5 inches
  • Happy Mother’s Day stamp by Recollection
  • Tim Holtz’s Reinkers, Mustard Seed and Spun Sugar
  • Tim Holtz’s Distress Stain, Broken China

I first saw this technique done by Kristina Werner’s channel and instantly fell in love with it. Her link is here:

Kristina’s watercolor technique

I do admit this technique does appear easy, but does take practise. The hard part is just adding the paint and not soaking the paper to the bone.  You only have one shot to this.

This was my second attempted to the painting. The first one, I kind of overdid it with the heating gun.  Where I learned that burnt watercolor paper smells like toasted marshmallows.  And unfortunately, there was a big burnt mark right in the middle which I couldn’t fix it, so I had to reshoot the entire video.

But I am hoping to say that I am getting better, putting aside that little incident.

Other than that, things are good. Unfortunately I twisted my knee when I was picking up a bottle of paint, so I have been on pain killers and not doing much work. And the weather is finally warming up to where I actually packed my winter coat away for hopefully many months.

All the songs are by Dan Lebowitz. I thought it was perfect since my mom is a big country fan.

I hope everyone has a great Mother’s day.
