Decluttering Original Things

I have been so busy trying to declutter and clean up my art studio, my bedroom, my place that I forgotten to declutter Original Things.

And I know you are thinking, “Lesley, how are you are going to declutter Original Things?” It is almost the middle of October and I haven’t even posted a video for Halloween.  I actually planned 4 videos for this month.  This honestly really stressed me out to the point where I was physically sick again.  I am breaking out in rashes again and dealing with insomnia and anxiety.

My big sale is in the beginning of next month, and I still need to make more stuff.  Let alone, some of you known that Halloween is a very emotional time for me.   So I made a decision to save my sanity.

I am NOT quitting You Tube, but I am going to take some time off.  Which I know that is suicide for the You Tube community.  But right now, the sale is more important that Halloween.  As well I still haven’t got You Tube down pact.  I did downloaded Shotcut, the new editing program, but I still haven’t taken the time to watch the editorals and figure it out.  It takes me two days to edit on my cell and how many days to film a video.  Days that I need to be working on knitted and crochet things as well as cards.

I am not quitting, I am just prioritizing my sanity. After the December sales, things should slow down, hopefully.

Hope everyone is well.

Cupcake Card

Hello,

First of all, I should apologized for not blogging for awhile a bit.  I fell and hit my head hard where I ended up having a concussion.  Then the next day, my family had an emergency so basically all of my energy and time was focus on that.  But the good news is that everything is better and back to normal.

In other news, I finally got my Facebook page for Original Things working so today after this, I am going to work on it some more.  I am debating of whether or not to make a facebook page for my channel, because technically it is for Original Things, just with a different name.  Speaking of a different name, we did changed the name of the page to Lesley’s Original Things because there were 3 or 4 pages of Original Things.

So back to work.  I hope everyone is well.

Anniversary Card

I know it seemed ages since I last blogged and posted a video.  It has been so hot with temperatures reaching up to 34C.  The air conditioner has been on all of the time.  And of course, it is right beside the computer.  In order to work on this computer, I have to turn off the air conditioner.  And honestly, that wasn’t going to happen.  My dad almost suffered a heat stroke from this heat.  Not to mention, I have been sick.  It has been too hot where I can’t eat and that made me feel more sick.  Terrific.

So during this heat wave, it was my parent’s 62nd wedding anniversary. No, it is not a typo, they are actually married for 62 years.  What is their secret?  I already asked my mother that and she had no idea.

The video of the card is : Anniversary Card

The supplies I used are:

  • Truck stamp from CLDo1 from Stampendous.  Xmas Stamp and Die – You can use holiday stamps for regular cards, just use your imaginations.
  • Watercolor scrap paper – in this case, I used 120 lb paper
  • Tim Holtz’s reinker, Vintage Photo
  • Recollection Paint Brushes – Black
  • Small round brush
  • Cuttlebug with the plates
  • Beige cardstock measuring 4 by 4 1/2 inches
  • Clearly sentimental Stamp, about Anniversaries from My Favourite Things
  • Double-sided tape
  • White Glue
  • Recollection Red Card – 5 by 6 1/2 inche
  • Kraft Cardstock – 4 6/8 by 6 1/4
  • Black Archival Ink from Ranger
  • Clear Emboss Powder
  • Anti-Static bag
  • Washi Burlap Tape – 6 1/4 inch long

I almost finished another video which I planned to post next week, assuming the weather is on my side.

Other than that, things have been slow cause of this heat.  I am trying to get some stuff done for the Bentley sale in November and December.  It takes up to two weeks to knit a scarf for example.  And before I know, it will October and I am going be one mad knitter.

I hope everyone stays cool in this summer.

From Sketch to Card . . . Father’s Day Card

I know that I had cut it close . . . again with the holiday cards.

Here is the link to the video Father’s Day Card

I don’t know if you may recalled, but several months, we had a small tornado that hit our town. As far as I recalled, no one was hurt.  But there was major damage to the properties, including my house.  The good news is that we only lost a few shingles on our roof.   The neighbours behind us half of their roof was gone.  So obviously we were down on the waiting list of getting our roof repaired.

Well this week, we finally got our turn and oh boy. The constant banging for the past week has given me several bad headaches and reasons to go out shopping to buy useless stuff, just so I can get of the house.  Shoot, I finally cleaned out a shelving unit, getting rid of some of my stuff, I really do not need any more stuff.  Not to mention, I am supposed to be on a budget.

I also going to apologized for me being listening to my MP3 player while making the video. I do not know if it is rude according to the You Tube equittes, but honestly, I would rather listen to Ricky Martin, “She Bangs” to the banging on the ceiling.

20180616_155028(0)[1]

Here are the supplies that I used:

  • 5 X 6 ½ inch Kraft Card
  • 12 x 12 Recollection Pattern paper, “Wood Slate” cut down to 4 ¾ x 6 ¼ inches
  • 3 x 4 inch Recollection Pattern paper, “Green Faux Canvas”
  • 2 by 6 ½ inch corrugated cardboard strip
  • 4 inch circle from 90 lb watercolor paper
  • Happy Father’s Day stamp by Recollection
  • Leaf Stamp by Craft Smart
  • Versamark Ink Pad
  • White Embossing Powder
  • Clear Embossing Powder
  • Tim Holtz’s Distressed Inks:
          • Frayed Burlap
          • Mowed Lawn
          • Vintage Photo
          • Antique Linen
  • Double side Tape
  • Green Button
  • White Embroidery Thread

This card was quite a challenge. Honestly, Father’s Day and sympathy cards are the hardest card for me to make.  I know with Sympathy, I really do make them unless I have to.  Like my friend J and I get together to make cards, we usually don’t, “Oh boy, oh boy, let’s make some sympathy cards.”  Birthday cards are more fun than sympathy.

Halloween is the next holiday, so hopefully I can make that one in time.

I hope everyone is well

3 Bunny Easter Card

For those who have recently subscribed to my blog, I bid you welcome and I hope you enjoy my blog and channel.

I posted another video, Easter which I know it is less than a hour away.  And there are a few mistakes in the video.  I have no idea of how I posted a set of instructions twice.  Nuts. I know, I know, it is a learning progress.  I need to be patience.

The link to the video is 3 Bunny Card

The supplies that I used are simple:

  • 5×7 pink card
  • 12 x 12 Pink Bunny/ Lapis Rose Pattern paper from Recollection
  • Bunny Stamp from Inkadinkado
  • Easter Sentiment stamp from Craft Smart Stamps
  • White ink, Color Box
  • White Embossing powders
  • Embossing sack or a dryer sheet
  • Martha Stewart Edge Punch – Double Loop Punch
  • Square Punch 1 1/2 inch
  • Heating Gun
  • Bone Folder
  • Paper Cutter
  • Double Sided Tape
  • White Cardstock
  • White ribbon
  • Scissors

One of the channels that I watched on YouTube is  Mike Deakin

where I learned the double sided tape trick.  I can still adjust paper before finally gluing it down completely, saving me a bunch of headaches of having cards with papers that do not align.  It drives me nuts.

Anyway, I hope everyone has a good Easter.  I find it funny that it is on the same day as April’s Fool Day.  I wondered when that will happen again.  Probably not for another 100 years.

I will talk to you soon.

Making Time

There is a song from the Rolling Stones, that say, “Time is not on my side.”

Well, it is true.

Or maybe I have bad time management skills.

It has taken me over 2 weeks to make a You Tube video.  And yes, I realized that the last one took longer because of the glue drying.

But take “Do it On a Dime” and “Vasseur Beauty” for example.  Kathryn from Do it on a Dime has two young boys and somehow manages to make a couple of videos every week.  Brittney from Vasseur, has a toddler son and works at her family’s company and still able to make a couple of videos every week.  So why am I taking so long?

  • The gluing incident for one
  • I am not used to it.  I am still learning as I go.

As well as the upcoming April sale which I should have more cards and hats done, but I do not.

So this week, I have been keeping track of my time, seeing what if any is the problem.

And yes, there is.  After dinner last Monday, my stomach flared where I had to lie down for a few hours.  It wasn’t until after ten that I was feeling better to do some work.

Except after ten is when the sun goes down.  And I need natural light to work for the cards.  Somehow my lamp gives off this yellowish tint which is fine for knitting.  But it does make my white and cream color cardstock appear to be the same color.

A better lamp may be on my birthday or Christmas wish list.

I hope everyone has a good weekend.

Accordions Art Journal

After some delays,  I managed to post my second you tube video.  Delays being waiting for the glue to dry.  There should be a song and dance on that.

Accordian Art Journal

As expected that there were mistakes in the video.  Mainly the ones where I typed in the instructions on the screen, I didn’t make them last long.  How long are you suppose to keep the instructions up there?

Anyway, here is my supply list.

1 sheet of 38 by 25, 140 lb watercolor sheet

1 handpressed wrapping paper.  Now you can used wrapping paper, newspaper or anything that is larger than 12 by 12.  However I would stronger recommended that if you used newspaper, spray it with fixtive, clear gesso, or even gel medium because you don’t want the ink to spear onto the watercolor paper or your own fingers

Glue, I used Aleve Tacky Glue

Foam Brush

Ribbon

Weights, in my case I used candles.

I am planning to used this journal in future videos.

In other news, I am still working for the April sale, and starting to get nervous that I am not going to have enough.  I made some little booklets, only to have them fall apart the next day.  Terrific.  So that is back to the drawing board.

I hope everyone is doing ok.
